Dawson
City, a town of 1500 (winter) and 3000 (summer), is a unique and charming
community.
What
makes Dawson different from other small towns?
Citizens are an eclectic (sometimes eccentric)
bunch who have chosen to live here from all across Canada and from all
walks of life. (Dawson is not a one-industry town.) At your doorstep
is a vast, pristine and unpopulated wilderness of mountains and rivers.
For a small town Dawson has unparalleled performing and fine arts exposure,
recreational opportunities and community volunteer spirit. It is a very
young community with many university educated and well-travelled young
singles and couples both with and without children. (According to the
1996 census with Statistics Canada, Dawson City has the second highest
number of post-secondary educated citizens per capita of any community
in Canada.) And we boast no strip malls and no chain stores!
Rich history as Dawson was the 'Paris of the
North' during the Klondike Gold Rush at the turn of the century. Dawson
has retained its historic charm with unpaved streets and boardwalks.
And we have no traffic lights!

Active and young community situated in the heart
of the untouched mountain and river wilderness of the Yukon. (No campground
reservations required here!) Running club, triathlon, Solstice marathon,
110 mile relay road running race, long distance relay Chilkat bike
race, mountain biking. Limitless backcountry hiking and river canoeing/kayaking
potential in the Yukon wilderness. One hour drive to the Tombstone
Mountains. Local golf course, swimming pool, soccer field, baseball
fields. In the winter: hockey, curling, downhill ski hill, cross-country
skiing, snowmobiling and dog-sledding.

Opportunities for spousal career especially if
your spouse is a teacher, mechanic, carpenter, electrician, plumber,
computer based home business, expanded role nurse, entrepreneur or has
skills as an office worker or in the service industry. (Many of Dawson's
local businesses are owned and operated by young entrepreneurs, especially
women.) No social, cultural or recreational isolation.
A well-educated and very appreciative patient population.
Interesting medicine. A rural comprehensive family practice with opportunity
to do as much as your comfort level dictates. A practice style which
allows you to spend adequate time with your patients. Good team work
with the local nurse practitioners.

We are a young (relatively!) doctor couple who
have lived in Dawson for more than a decade and can't think
of anywhere else in the world we would rather live! (And we are not
alone. A 2001 study by the Pembina Institute in Alberta ranked the
Yukon as the #1 place to live in Canada based on local economy, life
expectancy and education.)
If you are a doctor interested in working in
Dawson please contact Dr.
Suzanne Crocker by email: scrocker@northwestel45674567fghjtyjfge34mjk9.net
or leave a message at the office (867) 993-5744.
